Call for third-level campus in Leitrim raised in Dáil

Deputy Martin Kenny urges the government to prioritise funding for a dedicated third-level campus in Leitrim

Leitrim’s lack of a third-level institution was raised in the Dáil this week by local Sinn Féin TD Martin Kenny, who urged the government to make addressing the issue an “absolute priority.”

Speaking to Minister for Further and Higher Education James Lawless, Deputy Kenny highlighted that Leitrim remains the only county in Ireland without a third-level institution.

He called for funding to be allocated to the Mayo, Sligo and Leitrim Education and Training Board (ETB), which is already running courses in the county and wishes to establish a permanent campus.

“For too long, our children have had to travel to other places to obtain education services,” Deputy Kenny said.
