Cycle in memory of Conor Torsney to raise funds for Dromahair community park

Parents organise 90km charity cycle to honour their late son and support vital community facility

Cycle in memory of Conor Torsney to raise funds for Dromahair community park

A 90km charity cycle will take place this summer in memory of Conor Torsney, a young man from Dromahair who passed away tragically at the age of 20 on June 18th last year.

Organised by his parents, Kevin and Clodagh Torsney, the event is a heartfelt tribute to their son and a way of giving back to the community that rallied around them during the most difficult year of their lives. Family, friends, and neighbours have all played a vital role in helping the Torsneys through their grief—and now, the couple is inviting the wider community to join them in honouring Conor’s memory.

The sponsored cycle will take place on Saturday, June 14th, 2025, covering a 90km loop that begins and ends in Dromahair. The route will travel through Drumkeerin, Drumshanbo, Leitrim Village, Battlebridge, Keadue, Ballyfarnon, Geevagh, Sooey, Ballygawley, Ballintogher, and back to Dromahair.

Conor was a familiar face on the local sports scene and spent much of his youth training and playing at the Dromahair Community Park. “He might have dragged his heels to training in his late teens,” his parents recall, “but he always came home in great form and full of chat after the session.”

Funds raised through the cycle will go directly toward further development of the Dromahair Community Park, which has become a vital centre for social, recreational, and sporting life in the area. The park currently features a playground, 1km walkway, picnic area, outdoor gym, all-weather floodlit astro turf, and changing and meeting rooms. Plans are now underway for a new training area and an upgraded car park.

However, the original football field—once the heart of the park—is now frequently unplayable and in need of urgent upgrade if local clubs are to continue to grow and thrive. While some grant aid is available, it falls short of the funding needed to complete the improvements.

Kevin and Clodagh hope their efforts will not only honour their son but also spark a wave of community support for a cause that meant so much to him. “Please support our cyclists,” they said. “Let’s do something positive, together, in Conor’s name.”
