Charlie McGettigan to launch vibrant summer art show in Ballinamore

This exhibition will run until 29th August.

“Summertime and the Living is Easy,” as sung by Ella Fitzgerald, sets the tone for a new sensory journey at the Island Theatre in Ballinamore, where Solas Art Gallery has unveiled its vibrant Summer Group Exhibition. Running from June 27 to August 29, the show invites audiences to experience the warmth, playfulness, and quiet beauty of the season through a wide-ranging “interior dialogue” of artistic expression.

Featuring more than 70 works by over 30 artists—some familiar to the Solas community, others making their debut—this eclectic display is as diverse as the season it celebrates. Visitors can expect a feast of visual storytelling across a host of mediums, from oils and acrylics to photography, sculpture, poetry, and even digital art.

The collection also includes works in more unusual forms such as encaustic, monoprints, distemper, sculptural embroidery, aerosol, decorators’ emulsion, and ink. Together, these pieces form a dynamic mosaic of colour, texture, and emotion—inviting the viewer to linger, reflect, and feel the lightness of summer.

The official opening takes place on Friday, June 27 at 7:30pm and will be launched by beloved Leitrim-based singer, songwriter, guitarist, and broadcaster Charlie McGettigan. Guests are promised a relaxed, welcoming evening—with refreshments served and, perhaps, a live song or two from Charlie himself.

Whether you’re an art aficionado, a curious visitor, or simply seeking a bit of summer inspiration, the Solas Summer Group Exhibition offers a refreshing escape into creativity and colour. Admission is free and all are welcome.

For those looking to celebrate the arts in their many forms—and soak up the joys of the season indoors—this is one exhibition not to miss.
