Joanna Sweeney & Friends Live at the Coleman Music Centre

A night of traditional Irish music and more

Joanna Sweeney & Friends Live at the Coleman Music Centre

Get ready for an unforgettable night of Irish traditional music when Joanna Sweeney & Friends take the stage at the Coleman Music Centre in Gurteen on Wednesday, 6th August, at 8 PM.

Joanna Sweeney, an accomplished Irish traditional musician, will lead the performance. With a Master of Arts in Irish traditional music performance from the Irish World Academy of Music & Dance, she brings a deep understanding of regional styles, especially from the North Connaught region. Her expertise and passion for the evolving nature of traditional Irish music shine through in every performance, whether she’s playing the whistle or the bodhrán.

Joanna’s career has seen her perform at renowned festivals and international showcases, including the Bergen Fleadh and Trad@Lunch at the Hawk’s Well Theatre in Ireland. Her performances are rooted in living cultural traditions, which she continues to explore through both practice and research.

Joining her for the evening are Cliodhna Quinlan and Mark Murphy, both well-known figures in the folk music scene. Cliodhna Quinlan, a master fiddler who specializes in both Irish and American folk music, has collaborated with a range of renowned artists, including Hazel O'Connor and Mike Scott. She is currently working on an exciting project combining music and poetry with poet Mary Branley, and their new EP will be released on June 27th.

Mark Murphy, a multi-instrumentalist and music teacher based in rural South Sligo, will also take the stage. A founding member of the folk trio GreenBirdFlying and the jazz group The Kobe Trio, Mark brings a unique blend of skills to the performance. His proficiency across multiple instruments—including piano, guitar, mandolin, and banjo—adds depth to any musical arrangement.

The evening will also feature Paddy Cummins (banjo/flute), Padraic Collins (harp/guitar), and Junior Davey (bodhrán/bones), creating a dynamic and rich ensemble that will captivate audiences with their mastery of traditional Irish sounds.

Tickets for the event are €15, and booking is essential. You can reserve your spot by calling 071 9182599 or booking online at www.colemanirishmusic.com.
