Family leads ground and aerial operation to find 21-year-old David O’Callaghan

Drones deployed in Longford as search intensifies for missing Mohill man

The search for missing Mohill man David O’Callaghan has expanded to Longford town today, with drones deployed to assist in the operation.

David, 21, was last seen in Boyle, Co Roscommon, on Saturday evening, August 9th, at around 5pm, near St Joseph’s Church after getting out of a car. He is described as 6ft 3in tall, of medium build, with black hair, and was wearing a black top, black tracksuit bottoms, and white runners at the time of his disappearance.

His parents are leading today’s search in Longford, joined by family, friends, and local volunteers. Drones are being used to scan open ground and hard-to-reach areas from the air, while teams on foot cover key locations in and around the town.

David’s father, David Senior, described the operation as “comprehensive,” with both aerial and on-the-ground efforts working in tandem.

Yesterday, search teams — including Gardaí, relatives, and local volunteers — combed the Boyle to Lough Key cycle path, the Boyle Canal, and Lough Key Forest Park, but no confirmed sightings were reported.

An Garda Síochána continues to appeal to residents in Boyle, Longford, and surrounding areas to check their properties, sheds, and lands for any sign of David or information that could assist in tracing his whereabouts. His family say his disappearance is completely out of character and they are “extremely concerned” for his welfare.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Boyle Garda Station on 071 966 4620, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
