The Lough Rynn Harvest Festival and Vintage Day once again drew huge crowds to the grounds of Lough Rynn Castle Hotel, Mohill, on Sunday, September 7th. Long-time volunteer Rose Farrell said the festival is “all about community spirit” and that this year was no exception.

“From early morning the vintage cars, tractors and machinery were rolling in, and soon the blacksmith, the basketmaker and the butter makers were all at work showing off their crafts,” she said. “Despite the cloudy weather, the place was buzzing. There really was something for everyone, young and old alike.”

By midday the roads around Rynn were packed, with cars queuing into the carpark and onto the grounds. “It was fantastic to see such crowds. Families came for the games, the amusements, the craft stalls — and of course the music,” Rose added.
The day finished on a high with Patrick Feeney and his band keeping the dance floor full until the very end. “You couldn’t ask for a better way to close the day. People went home smiling, and that’s what it’s all about,” Rose said. She praised the huge effort of local volunteers: “Almost every able-bodied person in the parish had a hand in it, from stewarding to setting up stands. Even the youth club were out picking up litter and keeping the grounds tidy. It’s a real team effort, and I’m proud to be a part of it.”

Proceeds from the festival will once again be divided among parish organisations, something Rose said is at the heart of the tradition. “It’s not just a day out — it’s giving back to the community. That’s why we keep doing it, and why it keeps growing every year.”
