Gardaí have confirmed that 101 officers are currently assigned to County Leitrim, with 292 policing the wider Sligo/Leitrim Division.
In a statement, Gardaí said staffing levels across the division shift regularly and are influenced by population, crime patterns and operational demands. While some local stations have limited public opening hours, Gardaí stressed that this does not reflect the level of policing on the ground, as officers continue patrols, investigations and community work outside counter hours.
They also noted that keeping a station physically open can reduce the number of Gardaí available for patrols.
District Headquarters, which operate around the clock, remain the main point of contact for non-emergency queries. In urgent cases, the public is advised to call 999 or 112, with all emergency calls now handled through the GardaSAFE control-room system.
The Sligo/Leitrim Division completed its transition to the new Garda Operating Model in late 2024, leading to internal reshuffling of administrative roles and changes to where certain units, such as Roads Policing and Drugs, are based. Their operational responsibilities, however, remain the same.
