Funding includes energy-efficiency measures to support 2030 decarbonisation targets

€2m funding boost announced for Mayo, Sligo and Leitrim ETB

Mayo, Sligo and Leitrim Education and Training Board (ETB) has been allocated more than €2 million in new Government funding to support essential upgrades and investment across its further education and training facilities.

Fianna Fáil TD for Sligo–Leitrim, Deputy Eamon Scanlon, has welcomed confirmation of €2.03 million in funding, announced this morning by the Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, James Lawless TD.

The funding will support a wide range of works, including building maintenance, health and safety improvements, accessibility upgrades, ICT and equipment modernisation, and energy-efficiency measures. Investment will also be directed towards specialist equipment aimed at upskilling staff and learners in key sectors such as construction, biopharmaceuticals and MedTech.

Deputy Scanlon said the funding would have a direct and lasting impact on education and training provision across the region.

“Mayo, Sligo and Leitrim ETB plays a vital role in education in our county. This funding of over €2 million will allow the ETB to carry out important upgrades, improve access and safety, and invest in specialist equipment to support the skills our local economy needs,” he said.

“It ensures that learners, staff and communities will continue to be empowered now and into the future.”

Part of the allocation will be delivered through the Green Devolved Capital Grant, supporting the ETB in meeting the Government’s 2030 energy-efficiency and decarbonisation targets. Measures include advanced electricity, gas and water metering across further education and training buildings, aimed at improving sustainability and reducing energy-related emissions.

The funding is being provided under Project Ireland 2040 and will be distributed to education and training boards through SOLAS, with the aim of targeting resources where they are most needed to improve infrastructure, learning environments and skills training.

Deputy Scanlon also acknowledged the role of Minister Lawless in securing the investment.

“I would like to sincerely thank my colleague Minister Lawless for his work on this initiative. Our ETB provides excellent learning opportunities for everyone, and I am delighted to see this funding allocated to them,” he said.
