A man armed with a large kitchen knife threatened staff during a robbery at Kelly’s Centra on the Cloone Road in Mohill on Saturday night, January 31, 2026.
The incident occurred at approximately 9.50pm when a male wearing a balaclava entered the premises and threatened two members of staff with a knife while demanding money. He subsequently made off on foot with a sum of cash.
No injuries were reported during the incident. However, staff described the ordeal as deeply distressing, particularly for two younger employees who were on duty at the time and have been left badly shaken.
A member of staff said the man is believed to be local to the area.
Gardaí have confirmed that investigations are ongoing and have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
This is the second robbery reported in Mohill during the month of January. Gardaí are also investigating a burglary at a commercial premises at Paul’s Shop on Main Street Upper, Mohill, which occurred shortly before 4.00am on January 2, 2026, during which cash and cigarettes were stolen. Investigations into that incident are ongoing.
Anyone who was in the vicinity of the Cloone Road around the time of Saturday night’s robbery, including pedestrians or road users, is asked to contact Gardaí. In particular, Gardaí are seeking any available camera footage, including dash-ccam recordings, that may assist with the investigation.
