Walkers set for Drumreilly Community Camino this May

The Drumreilly Community Camino will take place on Saturday, May 2, with walkers set to travel through rural South Leitrim as part of a day-long community event.

The walk will begin and finish at Drumcoura City near Ballinamore, with participants gathering at the Drumcoura Saloon before setting off along a number of routes through the surrounding countryside.

Three distances will be available to walkers: 35km, 20km and 10.5km, allowing participants to choose a route that suits their ability.

A safety demonstration will take place at Drumcoura Saloon before departure, with the event running from 7am to 7pm.

The Camino routes will take participants along local boreens, woodland paths and drumlin hills in the Drumreilly area. Walkers will also pass locations overlooking Garadice Lough and the Shannon–Erne Waterway.

Organisers say the event offers an opportunity to walk through parts of the local countryside and townlands with a long history in the area, including sites linked to more than 1,200 years of Christian heritage.

The event is open to participants aged 18 and over, and dogs are not permitted due to livestock along the route.

Refunds will be available up to seven days before the event.
