Two editors and a photographer from Traveler Magazine in China visited Leitrim last week as guests of Tourism Ireland and Fáilte Ireland. They were here to experience at first-hand some of the many things to see and do in this part of Ireland and, in turn, to inspire their 340,000+ readers back home in China to come and experience the destination for themselves. They are planning a 20-page article – including the magazine cover – all about their Ireland experience, for the October edition.
Their visit coincided with Bloomsday celebrations in Dublin – so their itinerary was designed to showcase how Ireland and our spectacular landscape have provided the inspiration for some of our literary greats. In Leitrim, the journalists enjoyed a guided tour of Parke’s Castle and a cruise on Lough Gill – the inspiration behind one of Yeats’ best-known poems, Lake Isle of Inishfree.
According to the latest data from the UNWTO (United Nations World Tourism Organization), China is now the world’s largest outbound travel market – with some 120 million people travelling overseas each year, spending $165 billion.
