Manorhamilton show has now been running for sixteen years since it’s reintroduction and has been growing in popularity each year. Over the years new classes have been introduced in order to spice up the day, and give exhibitors more classes to enter in.
However, it is not all about exhibiting, while it is the main focus of the show, we have to think of the punter coming through the gate just simply for a day out.
This year we have a lot to choose from, I will start with the show country market. It is the first year to branch into this field and we hope it will be the first of many. The show country market will display all that the area has to offer in the line of food, beverages and crafts.
From award winning gin made here right in Leitrim to baking, basket making and much more. We feel that the show is the place to display all that Leitrim has to offer in this area, and we are confident that it will be a big hit on the day.
Moving on from that we have a wool spinner and a table of knitters who go under the name of “knitwits”. This idea came to mind with me, when I was at an event last winter and a young girl was wearing a beautiful hand knitted sweater I admired it and asked her where she got it and it was a Christmas present from her aunt, when I asked her where the wool came from she “I don’t really know maybe Penny’s”. So I thought maybe a lot of the very young don’t actually realize that their wooly jumpers actually come from sheep.
So we will have our sheep penned for shearing, our shearers next, followed by a wool spinner and finally a table of knitters, this will demonstrate where exactly these garments come from.
Another new attraction to this year’s show will be the sheep dog trials, this will attract a lot of attention, it is purely an amateur event and we welcome all who wish to run a dog.
We have a very large pet section and it has grown each year, and 2016 is no exception. A vortex tunnel, a climbing wall, nail driving, guess the weight, penalty kick, and of course a large marquee with horticulture, baking, crafts, handwriting, photography and much more.
So hopefully the weather will be kind to us on the day, we hope to see you all for yet again another exciting and colourful day at the Manorhamilton Show.
