Entertainment for all the family in beautiful riverside village


The ever-popular Annual Jamestown Show and Fun Day will take place this year on Saturday, July 30th at 1.30pm.

Held for the first time in 1965, this year's show will be the 52nd edition of the event and promises to attract the crowds once again to Junior Byrne's Field.

Once again the hard-working organising committee have put together a packed programme of events to cater for young and old.

There will be Horticulture and Cookery Competitions, a Dog Show, a Puppet Show for the children and a Cookery Demonstration by popular local Chef Sham from The Cottage Restaurant.

There will be a Fancy Dress competition with a special prize for the Best 1916 Costume.

Live Music on the Field will entertain the crowd and among other attractions and events are face painting, races for young and not so young, Bonny Baby competition, Little Miss and Mr Jamestown competition (Under 10 years), Most Glamorous Granny, Best Dressed Male, Bouncing Castles, a Rodeo Bull and much much more.

Some of the novelty events include turf footing, bale stacking and potato picking.

Children's novelty events include musical chairs and children's races.

There will be demonstrations in loy digging, basketry making and boxty making.

Fortune Teller Madame Zara will be in attendance to let you know what lies in store for you.

There will be classes for Cookery, Flowers, Crafts, Horticulture, Art and Photography. There are a variety of classes in the Cookery section for breads, cakes, scones, tarts and jams.

Varieties of fruits and vegetables will be judged in the Horticulture section. The Flower section includes pot plants, cut flowers and floral arrangements.

The Photo section includes best humorous photos, best scenery and best child photo, with Junior sections in all these categories.

There is also a Kids Art section for U8 and U12 categories.

Added to all that will be miniature ponies, farm animals and vintage cars. Sure, what more would you want?

Then to round off a great day, head to The Arch Bar for live music with Jambalaya where the Show Queen and Jamestown's Most Eligible Bachelor will be crowned!
