Sligo/ Leitrim Mental Health Services to move into new unit in 2018

The HSE has confirmed that the Sligo/Leitrim Mental Health unit will move to a new purpose built 25 bed unit on the campus of Sligo University hospital in 2018.

The statement follows news that a recent inspection of the current facility on the Clarion road in Ballytivnan found that aspects of the unit do not meet modern and environmental standards.

The HSE said the unit is a century old and although refurbishments have taken place, it is not up to modern day standards.

It says plans are in place to vacate the building by the start of 2018 and move to a new purpose built admission unit.

The Mental Health Services have confirmed that local action plans are in place to address areas of non compliance as outlined in the report. These include risk management plans and a schedule of staff training on mandatory courses.
