Super Slimmer is now even lighter!

Mary preparing to have her head shaved with the finished result below

When Mary Flynn, 84 from Drumkeerin reached her target weight at Slimming World in Drumshanbo, she amazed her fellow slimmers by announcing that she was going to have her head shaved.
Mary, who has lost a total of 7.5 stone with the help of her Slimming World group and consultant Melanie, has been through some traumatic times over the last number of years, including 2 kidney transplants, major heart surgery and surviving cancer. She regularly attends various clinics in Beaumont Hospital and decided it was time to pay something back. Along with members of her family, friends and her Slimming World group, Mary organised the event which took place in the Mayflower Community Centre on 30th September 2016.
Mary had organised music, a raffle, a pop-up shop, an auction and of course the main event – a head shave!! Many of the items for the auction were handcrafted by Mary herself and her good friend Maureen Mulholland and included 2 beautiful crocheted throws, crocheted cushion covers and a crocheted hippo.
Fellow Slimming World members donated items of clothing, shoes, hats, books etc to the pop-up shop and also provided some of the fabulous food that was on offer during the evening.
Then Mary bravely took to the stage where Matt Burke from Matz Barbers in Boyle was waiting and within a few minutes all Mary’s beautiful hair was gone – she insisted it be shaved completely and Matt was under strict instructions – “Not even a number 1 blade!” Such a brave lady!
Mary would like to thank everyone who donated, helped out on the night, provided food, raffle prizes, auction items and gave of their time to be there and support her. Special thanks to Seamus Gallagher who was the MC, Dessie Wynne, Auctioneer extraordinaire, Dessie and Sean Rynn for the fabulous music, Melanie Johnson , Slimming World, Muriel Lee (DPD) and Matt Burke, Matz Barbers, Boyle.
So far Mary has raised more than €4500 for the Beaumont Foundation and is still taking donations so if you would like to contribute, please do so on GoFundMe, Beaumont Foundation.
