Man arrested in connection with Longford stabbing

Gardai investigate burglary at Longford business premises

 
A 24 year-old-man has been arrested in connection with the investigation into a fatal stabbing that occurred in the Great Water Street area of Longford this morning.

The man was arrested in the Longford area this afternoon and is currently detained at Longford Garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

A man, believed to be in his early 30's was discovered with chest wounds shortly before 12pm today. He was removed to Mullingar Hospital where he was pronounced dead this afternoon. The scene was preserved and technically examined.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who may have been in the Great Water Street/Rue Noyal Chetillon Street/ or the area of the shopping centre between 11.30am and 12noon today to contact Gardaí at Longford on 043-3350570, the Garda Confidential Line 1800-666-111 or any Garda Station.
