Sligo County Council outdoor staff to be retained for a further four months

Fianna Fáil TD for Sligo-Leitrim, Eamon Scanlon, has secured agreement from the Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government to extend the contracts of outdoor staff at Sligo County Council to cover the winter period.

Deputy Scanlon met Minister Simon Coveney last week and emphasised the importance of retaining these staff over the next number of months.

The Ballymote based TD explained, “I am very pleased that the Minister listened to the argument I put forward at our meeting and has extended these contracts for a further four months. These 12 staff members were taken on earlier this year to ensure that the road works plan could be completed. Now that the work is underway it’s essential that these staff are kept on to ensure that maintenance work can be undertaken."
