Carrick-on-Shannon District Court hears defendant didn't turn up to court because he was homeless

Alan Tuite with an address at 4 Carraig Breac, Drumshanbo and 38 Ennel Park, Coolock, Dublin 5 was convicted and fined €200 for threatening/abusive/ insulting behaviour at The Square, Drumshanbo on August 15, 2015.

Mr Tuite who is currently in custody at Cloverhill Prison pleaded guilty to the charges but did not turn up in a previous court to pay the compensation.

There were four bench warrants issued for his arrest.

The 27-year-old father of six said he had been homeless in Dublin and only recently got a house and that was the reason he did not attend court.

The gardai said on the above date at 2.25am they observed the defendant and others making a lot of noise. They asked the group to move on but the defendant got aggressive and made threats to Gardai.

He told the court “I had an argument with my girlfriend.”
