Councillor warns "accident about to happen" in Mohill

Mohill

A councillor has warned Leitrim County Council of an "accident about to happen" in Mohill if action is not taken to widen the road.

Cllr Des Guckian said Leitrim County Council "will have to be held responsible" if an accident occurs at Springfield, Mohill.

The independent councillor brought a motion this week to extend and widen a small lay-by at the townland on the approach of Mohill to "cater for the many wide silage trailers and big lorries that often meet near the summit of that hill."

His motion was seconded by Sinn Fein Cllr Seadhna Logan who added that a main pipe is repeatedly bursting at the location and water flow is damaging the road.

Leitrim County Council said it is common practice to construct lay-bys on roads when there is a grant applicable. "Unfortunately, there is no grant on this road for 2018." The councillor was advised to include the toad for consideration in the 2019-2021 restoration improvement grant programme.

Senior Engineer Darragh O'Boyle said he will contact Irish Water over the pipe issue.
