Jubilant scenes at count centre as official vote declared for Sligo/Leitrim constituency

The Presiding Officer making the official announcement in Sligo this evening.

There were jubilant scenes at the count centre in Sligo this evening after official confirmation that the Sligo/Leitrim/South Donegal/West Cavan constituency had indeed, 'voted yes'.

When the official count results were announced shortly after 6pm at the Clayton Hotel hall, it revealed that 34,685 people in the constituency had voted in favour of repealing the eighth.

This marks a majority victory of 59.4% for the Yes campaign.

However No campaigners have expressed their disappointment at the result. In the constituency a total of 23,730 voted No in the referendum (40.1%).
