Quinn Industrial Holding's Headquarters in Derrylin
Quinn Industrial Holdings have confirmed that two of its directors were assaulted in a local shop in Ballyconnell, Co Cavan last Friday afternoon, February 1.
The assailant fled the scene after QIH staff and members of the local community intervened to assist the directors. Both men are seeking medical attention for injuries sustained. Gardai are investigating the assault.
Commenting Liam McCaffrey, Chief Executive of Quinn Industrial Holding said: “We are very grateful to members of the local community and to QIH staff who intervened so quickly to stop this vicious physical assault on two of our senior management team as they as they bought their lunch in a local store. Cowardly unprovoked attacks of this nature cannot be allowed to go unpunished and we trust the Authorities will deal with this accordingly.”
Asked about the company's concerns over safety and security for staff going forward, Liam McCaffrey said he stood over his last statement on this issue, when a Senior Manager of the company was the victim of arson on October 31, 2018. At that time he said: "It is grossly unacceptable that criminals who threaten the lives and wellbeing of staff on both sides of the border continue to operate with impunity. It is also enormously frustrating that following years of intimidation and threats and a substantial escalation of violence over recent months that not a single arrest has been made.
“Unless politicians and the authorities on both sides of the border properly prioritise and resource this issue, as they have with gangland and paramilitary crime in other area, lives will be lost. More than 830 staff and their families and the wider community are impacted by this violence and intimidation and they are in urgent need of reassurance that this issue is being taken seriously.”
