Leitrim County Council are currently looking at turning Church Street, Ballinamore into a one way system.

The narrow street at the side of Leitrim County Library, is the location for Ballinamore Church of Ireland, a number of housing estates and businesses as well as the lead on to the road for Oughteragh Cemetery. It gets a lot of local traffic but there are issues with two cars passing each other.

Senior council engineer Darragh O'Boyle announced the news at Ballinamore municipal meeting last week.
He also said the council are due to fit new lights at the around the old schools in Ballinamore on the Carrick-on-Shannon road.
The route is very popular with walkers and runners in the evenings and it currently has a dark spot.
The council also expect to place new street lights at the junction on High Street for Swanlinbar/ Newtowngore.
Sinn Féin's Cllr Caroline Mulvey had asked the council if Ballinamore's street lights out to Edentenny were due to be upgraded to the more energy efficient LEDs.

The Government has a project to replace all public lights to LEDs. However, Ballinamore and Leitrim as a whole are not included in priority areas.
The council said they have not received any news on replacement bulbs for the county's existing street lights, but will keep members updated if any dates are announced.
The council also outlined that the 2019 budget does not have any funding for street lights.
