There will be no Rose representing Leitrim at the Rose of Tralee festival this year.

The organisers of the Rose of Tralee International Festival have revamped the selection process by removing the regional qualification aspect of the event to ensure that the next Leitrim Rose will feature in the TV final which will be broadcast from the Dome on RTÉ.

From 2019, each Centre would select a Rose bi-annually, such that 32 Roses will be hosted in Tralee annually to enjoy everything that Ireland’s flagship family festival has to offer – parades, gala functions, entertainment, televised Rose selection nights, a Rose Tour and much more.

The next Leitrim Rose selection event will take place in 2020 with subsequent selections taking place every second year thereafter. Roses representing Kerry, Cork and Dublin will continue to be selected every year.

However Leitrim hopes to be represented in The Dome by John Fanning as  a Rose Escort.

The 25 year old broadcaster from Ballinamore who plays for Sean Úi Heslin GAA club took part in the Rose Escort Boot Camp last weekend. The 40 lads will be shortlisted down to 32 later this year before the Rose of Tralee Final.

The 2019 Rose of Tralee International Festival will take place from Friday 23rd to Tuesday 27th August when a full line-up of FREE family-fun entertainment is planned for the streets of Tralee with Aslan, The Hot House Flowers, Derek Ryan, three parades, two fireworks displays and Adrenaline Stunt Show and much more.
