Sligo celebrates 100 years of Ulysses tomorrow

One of the most famous Irish books, Ulysses, was first published in Paris, on February 2nd 1922. Its author James Joyce had struggled for many years to get the book published and was delighted that he succeeded, and on his 40th birthday too!

Yeats Society Sligo, in partnership with the James Joyce Centre, Dublin will present: Four Dubs celebrating Ulysses on Wednesday February 2nd 2022 at the Yeats Building at 1pm. The event is free and no booking is needed.

Our four Dubs are: artist Paul Murray, a relation of James Joyce, through his mother May Murray, Chris O’Malley, Deputy President IT Sligo, Hugh MacConville, photographer and Brian Farrell, photographer.

All live and work in Sligo and will bring their special Dublin flavour to this unique novel – the all-day journey of Leopold Bloom through the streets of Dublin on June 16th, known as Bloomsday.

WB Yeats and James Joyce knew and respected each other’s work and, in this spirit, we are delighted to mark this important moment in this centenary year.

All are welcome.
