The following cases were heard by Judge Sandra Murphy at a recent sitting of Carrick-on-Shannon District Court

Held mobile phone while driving

John Duffy, Carracastle, Straide, (68) Foxford, Co Mayo, who was not in court, was convicted and fined €200 for holding a mobile phone while driving at Drumgorman, Co Leitrim on April 24 last year.

Drug driving ban

A Sligo man has been fined €250 and banned for one year for drug driving at Erris, Boyle, Co Roscommon on August 22 2020.
James Connor, (27) of Ballyheaney, Dromore West, Co Sligo pleaded guilty to the offence before Judge Sandra Murphy at Carrick-on- Shannon District Court The defendant had no previous convictions.

A Sligo man has been fined for a speeding offence

Kieran O’Connor (27) of Doonecoy, Templeboy, County Sligo pleaded guilty to travelling at a speed of 108 kph in a 50 kph zone on the N4 at Aughamore, Leitrim on April 18 last year.
Defence solicitor Colm Conway said his client, who was a student, had an exam that morning and it did not go well, and his concentration lapsed. But he was holding his hand up and was not making any excuse.
The fixed penalty notice issued was not paid, as he did not have much money and it was put on the long finger. The solicitor asked for the court to be as lenient as it could. Judge Sandra Murphy fined the defendant €180.

Vehicle was not taxed

A Meath man has been convicted and fined for a road traffic offence.
Tom Reilly, of Clare Meadows, Navan, Co Meath was detected in his vehicle which was not taxed at Attifinlay, Carrick-on-Shannon on March 10 last year. The court heard the defendant, who was not in court, had previous convictions for no tax and no insurance. Judge Sandra Murphy fined the defendant €180.

Defendant was banging on doors

A Mayo man has been fined for public intoxication. Michael McDonagh, (29) Hawthorn Village, Castlebar was detected banging on doors at Drumharlow, Carrick-on-Shannon on January 8 last year.
He was arrested and a fixed penalty notice was issued but unpaid. The court heard the defendant, who was not in court, had 31 previous convictions. Judge Sandra Murphy fined the defendant €200.
