A Leitrim councillor has been appointed as the new chairman of the Northern and Western Regional Assembly.
Enda McGloin, a Fine Gael councillor in the Drumshanbo municipal district, took up the role over the weekend.
The Northern and Western Regional Assembly is one of the three regional assemblies in Ireland and includes Cavan, Donegal, Monaghan, Leitrim, Sligo, Roscommon, Mayo and Galway.
Regional assemblies provide regional policy-making, monitoring and oversight and promote enhanced co-ordination in the Region.
“It was a great honour for me as a Cllr from Co Leitrim to be elected Chairperson of the Northern Western Regional Assembly today at our AGM at Sligo County Council HQ,” said Cllr McGloin on Instagram.
“Thanks to the members who unanimously elected me to this very important position during the time of Ireland's Presidency of the EU.”
