The Lough Rinn Dragons, a newly formed dragon boat team from Leitrim, celebrated a successful debut at the Lough Rinn Dragon Boat Regatta on September 14.
Competing in their very first regatta, the team showed incredible determination, teamwork, and spirit in this exciting water sport event.
Held at the stunning Lough Rinn waters, the event attracted teams from across the region, all eager to showcase their skills in the exhilarating dragon boat races. Despite being newcomers to the scene, the Lough Inn Dragons made a lasting impression with their energy, enthusiasm, and remarkable performance throughout the day.

Siobhan Doran, Chairperson and one of the team's coaches said “We couldn't be happier with how our first regatta turned out. The Lough Rinn Dragons are a new team, but we’ve been training hard for this moment. To compete alongside some very experienced teams was both challenging and inspiring. We’ve built a great sense of camaraderie, and today’s regatta marks the beginning of an exciting journey for us.”
The Lough Rinn Dragons competed in several heats throughout the day, demonstrating their growing expertise in the sport. Dragon boat racing is fast gaining popularity across Ireland, known for its inclusive team spirit and thrilling competition. The Lough Inn Dragons, formed earlier this year, have already grown a strong local following.
The Lough Rinn Regatta, an annual event, offered the perfect opportunity for the team to test their abilities on the water. With plenty of community support and spectators cheering from the shores, the event proved to be a memorable experience for both competitors and onlookers alike.
The Lough Inn Dragons are already looking forward to future competitions and growing their presence in the Irish dragon boat racing community. Their participation in the Lough Rinn Dragon Boat Regatta has sparked excitement in the local area, with many more eager to get involved in the sport.
