Leitrim Darts celebrate 2024 as they gear up for West Coast Challenge this weekend

Congratulations to all our award winners who received their lovely mementos at a very pleasant awards night last Sunday in the Barrel Store preceded by a challenge match between our A & B teams in preparation for the West Coast Challenge this weekend in the Landmark Hotel.

Our Awards winners were as follows Gerard McGoldrick was named player of the year and the no 1 ranked was presented with a memento to mark his captaincy for the year.

Youths Player of the year for the second year running went to Charlie McDermott, captain of the first ever Intercounty youths team to represent Leitrim - they will be making their competitive debut next weekend on Saturday in the West Coast challenge. Leitrim Darts have high hopes for this talented bunch of lads.

Cyril Smyth, a dedicated player for Leitrim Darts over the last number of years, received his memento as captain of this year's B Team. The final award of the evening, the Hall of Fame, went to long serving player and administrator Robert Mulvey, current PRO & A team panelist, his Intercounty involvement stretching back to the 1970s.

West Coast Challenge Weekend is now upon us so it's all hands on deck to assist Chairman Brian Kelly to ensure the smooth running of this three day event, starting with the erection  of our 16 board dart wall & stands for youths & ladies competitions.

If you're available to help contact Brian or any committee member. If you have an interest in Darts please feel free to call in over the weekend, Doubles on Friday night, Team games all day Saturday and finishing with a singles competition on Sunday. We wish all our visitors & locals an enjoyable experience over the weekend.

Finally we offer our condolences and deepest sympathy to Adrian McCaffery and his family on the passing of his father Tommy. Adrian is currently treasurer of Leitrim Darts and one of our main sponsors. Tommy played darts in the Mohill league in the 1980s and won many a league title with The Ivy Tree. May his gentle soul rest in peace.
