Trident stars shine at Irish Open

Trident Swim Club's Conor Lanigan, Cormac Rynn and Eoghan Rynn pictured after they medalled at the recent Irish Open at the National Aquatic Centre in Dublin

What an exciting and busy five days Trident Swim Club had, in the NAC, competing at the Irish Open. Three of our swimmers, Clara Doherty, Eoghan Rynn and Conor Lanigan achieved the qualification standard to take part in this prestigious event.

They were joined by teammate Cormac Rynn who now trains with the National Centre in Limerick.  It was wonderful to see Irish Olympians and world class swimmers making Irish records and achieving qualification for World and European Championship.

One of our own Cormac Rynn was in that company achieving qualification times in the 200m freestyle and the 400m freestyle for the European U23 Championships.

Cormac had a wonderful race in his 400n free and took second place against Olympian and world record holder Daniel Wiffen.

Our younger lads were not to be overlooked with Eoghan Rynn securing a senior bronze medal in the exciting 50m Butterfly event. Conor Lanigan had a wonderful race in the 100m Butterfly event to secure a bronze medal.

Overall great swimming from team Trident with all of our swimming making it through the heats and semifinals rounds to swim in the National Finals.

Two of our younger team members got to be part of the excitement of the Irish Open when they travelled to Dublin to be part of the Interpros skills academy team, Congratulations Eanna Kelly and Donnacha Rynn.

Thanks to Fiona Rynn and Denise Doherty who filled their roles as Official and Team manager, we couldn't do this without you. Thanks to coach Helen Kennedy who travelled with the team.

There is a busy schedule ahead for these young athletes with the Leaving Cert looming for Clara, Eoghan and Conor.

Next week Cormac will travel with teammates Evan Bailey, John Shortt and the Wiffen brothers  to the Flagstaff centre in  Arizona for some high altitude training.

Cormac would like to take this opportunity to thank his sponsors Arigna Fuels, Kilronan Castle Estate, Woodland contractors, Brady Insurance and Scollan food store, without your financial support all this would not be possible.
