Jazzy Marathon raises over €3600 for North West STOP

Jason Monaghan presents a cheque for €3,602.25 to Nicola O'Connor from North West STOP from the Jazzy Marathon

It probably isn’t high on the list of Festive season activities but the success of the Jazzy Marathon last Christmas was recognised recently when Carrick AC’s Jason Monaghan presented North West STOP with a cheque for over €3,600.

Named the “Jazzy Christmas Marathon” from his nickname, Jason and his wife Caroline from Kilnagross  organised and participated in the event which has become something of a Festive tradition, having completed his first Marathon on December 27, 2020 as part of Liam Cox’s incredible Twelve Marathons of Christmas in aid of North West STOP.

Having got great support from North West STOP in 2020 when unable to run the Dublin Marathon, Jason has undertaken a marathon every Christmas as a way of thanking the organisation for their support.

The 2024 edition of the Jazzy marathon, which was held along the Blueway between Drumshanbo and Battlebridge with headquarters at the Lough Allen Adventure Centre,  was an incredible success, filled with excitement, energy, and overwhelming support from our amazing community.

This year saw a fantastic turnout of runners, along with incredible contributions from donors and volunteers. A massive thank you to everyone who participated, donated, or helped make this event possible. Your support means the world!

We’d like to express our heartfelt gratitude to Lough Allen Adventure Centre for their generosity in providing their wonderful facilities including Sauna, hot tub, plunge pool and changing facilities to our runners and donating all proceeds collected directly back to North West STOP.

Liam Cox was first home in the Men’s event in a time of 3.22.03 with Deirdre Martin first lady home in 3:43:25. Huge congratulations to both of you - what a fantastic achievement and thanks to Keaney's Carrick-on-Shannon for the wonderful trophies. A big well done to all the other runners who participated and gave it their all. You’re all amazing, and your efforts truly made the event special!
