Time running out to nominate your pick for 2025  Leitrim Sports Star Awards

Time is running out if you want to honour Leitrim's sporting heroes of the past 12 months with the closing date for nominations for the 2025 Leitrim Sports Star Awards fast approaching next Monday, December 15.

After another headline year for sport in the county, Leitrim Sports Partnership, in association with Leitrim County Council and the Leitrim Observer, are reminding the public that nominations close for the awards next Monday, December 15.

All nominations will be reviewed by an independent judging panel, and shortlisted nominees will be invited to attend the awards ceremony in February. Winners will be presented with bespoke handcrafted awards in recognition of their achievements.

The 14th annual awards ceremony will take place on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at the prestigious Lough Rynn Castle Estate & Gardens, Mohill. The event celebrates and honours the outstanding achievements, dedication, and commitment of Leitrim’s sporting community - from athletes and coaches to volunteers, clubs, and teams.

The following are the categories of awards so make sure to get your nominations before next Monday's closing date!

WALK AND RUN IN THE NEW YEAR WITH 50 MILES IN JANUARY CHALLENGE

Club of the Year - A sports club that has demonstrated excellence both on and off the field - showing strong governance, innovative programming and a welcoming, inclusive environment. The club will have made a significant contribution to its community, encouraged participation across all ages and abilities, and achieved notable sporting or developmental success over the past year.

Sports Individual Junior - A young athlete (under 18) who has shown exceptional talent, dedication, and progress in their chosen sport. The recipient demonstrates commitment to training, strong performance in competition, and serves as a positive role model for peers. This individual can be a member of a team or compete individually.

Sports Individual Senior - An athlete competing at adult level who has achieved outstanding  success or demonstrated exceptional dedication to their sport. The award recognises excellence, consistency, and a positive contribution to the sporting community. This individual can be a member of a team or compete individually.

Coach of the Year - An outstanding coach who has shown exceptional commitment, leadership, and positive influence on their athletes or team. This award recognises a coach who has fostered development, inclusion and achievement through skill, motivation, and mentorship.

Juvenile Team of the Year - A juvenile (under 18) team that has demonstrated exceptional performance, teamwork, and commitment throughout the year. The award recognises sporting achievement alongside values of respect, sportsmanship, and development.

Breaking Barriers Award - An individual who has overcome significant personal, physical, or social barriers to participate and achieve in sport. This award celebrates resilience, courage, and the power of sport to inspire and include.

Team of the Year - A team that has achieved outstanding success and demonstrated exceptional teamwork, commitment, and spirit. This award celebrates collective achievement, unity, and sportsmanship across all levels of competition.

Volunteer of the Year - A volunteer whose dedication, time and effort have made an exceptional contribution to sport in their community or club. This award highlights the vital role of volunteers in supporting  participation, inclusion, and development.

Sports  Star of the Year - This overall award winner has made the most outstanding sporting contribution of the year. This recipient represents the very best of Leitrim sport - excellence, passion, commitment and inspiration. This award winner can be a member of a team or compete individually.
