Irish sporting legend Jason Smyth will be the special guest at this year’s Leitrim Sports Star Awards with the six time Paralympic gold medalist a major draw for the event which will be held on Saturday February 7, in the Lough Rynn Castle Estate & Gardens.
With nominations set to be revealed in the coming days for the various categories, Smyth’s presence at the 14th edition of the Leitrim Sports Star Awards, organised by the Leitrim Sports Partnership, promises to make the 2026 awards ceremony a truly memorable occasion.
Widely regarded as one of Ireland’s most successful Paralympians and one of Ireland's fastest ever sprinters, Jason Smyth is a multiple Paralympic, World and European champion sprinter. Born in Derry and competing in the T13 classification, Jason made history at the London 2012 Paralympic Games by becoming the fastest Paralympian on the planet, recording a world-record time in the 100m.
He went on to defend his Paralympic titles at Rio 2016, cementing his status as a global sporting icon. Throughout his career, Jason has been a powerful ambassador for Irish sport, inspiring people of all ages through his achievements, resilience and unwavering commitment to excellence.
His story is one of determination, overcoming adversity and pushing the boundaries of what is possible - values that strongly reflect the spirit of the Leitrim Sports Star Awards.
