Despite his own deep disappointment last Saturday in London, Colin Griffin wore his coach’s hat as he expressed his great pride in the performance of Laura Reynolds and predicted a bright future for the Eslin woman.
“Laura performed brilliantly and to her full potential,” Colin told the Observer, “She didn’t have a smooth run of things in her final few weeks as she had been carrying injury niggles, so there was a lot of readjusting to do with her training plan to get her fit and ready for the race.
“I emphasised to her the importance of being relaxed and to enjoy the experience and to learn from it. Her tactics were to start off at 92 minute pace and try and finish strong in the second 10k. And she did exactly that and stormed through the field.
“She has huge potential. She finished seven places and a minute and a half behind Olive Loughnane and there is no question that with a steady progression over the next 4 years she will be a top 8 potential performer for Rio 2016.
“So for myself personally it was a mixed day for me but I was very proud of what Laura did.”
