On Thursday last, the large crowd in Drumcoura City were treated to a fantastic night of darts with Irish number one S. McGowan winning the eight night tournament final.
With the three Leitrim players kept apart in the draw for the quarter finals, the results of which were C.Fanning 2 M.Healy 4, E.McDermott 4 R. Venton 0; E.O Neill 4 N O’Reilly 1 and the game of the round, S. McGowan 4 L. Aldridge 3 as the national team captain had to produce his A game to get t he better of Liam in a contest that produced four 180s and every leg went with the throw.
E McDermott had great four win over R. Venton while C. Fanning playing in his first major final played well and can feel well pleased with his display. E.O’Neill beat M.Healy five games to one in one semi-final while local lad McDermot again pushed McGowan all the way before losing 5-3 in their semi-final.
The final was a cracker with McGowan winning 6-5, scoring seven 180s over the night to collect €650 and a magnificent inscribed Leitrim Crystal trophy. The runners-up recieved €320, the semi-finalists recieved €160 each while the quarter-finalists each received €80.
Thanks to Tommy Kirwan for hosting this eight nighter which was a resounding success and will become an annual event. Tommy contributed to the prize fund.
Also to Leitrim Darts Organisation for running the event and sponsored the winners trophy while over the nine nights no one went home hungry, thanks to all 151 entrants and already looking forward to next years’ event,
Lock 17 hosted round 3 of the Carrick Taxies eight night league on Sunday. Olive McIntyre showed why she is Ireland’s No 1 Lady thrower winning the third round, inflicting a first defeat in this event on L. Aldridge in a quality final, Frank & Ray Mulvey also made it onto the league table earning one point each. Round 4 takes place in McLoughlin’s of Fenagh next Sunday, check in 8.30.
We are very pleased with the numbers taking part, but there are a number of familar faces still to feature, half way stage next sun night hope to see everyone there.
