Ranking tournament: Leitrim Junior Pool players gave an excellent performance at the weekend’s ranking tournament held in Limerick. Kevin McWeeney continued on his victories, winning the Junior event with a 5-0 defeat to Wexford’s Mickey Scally. Jamie Gaffney got to the quarter-finals, in both the under 21 and Junior event while Keith Conlon defeated Kevin McWeeney in the semi-final of Under-21.

Ranking tournament: Leitrim Junior Pool players gave an excellent performance at the weekend’s ranking tournament held in Limerick. Kevin McWeeney continued on his victories, winning the Junior event with a 5-0 defeat to Wexford’s Mickey Scally. Jamie Gaffney got to the quarter-finals, in both the under 21 and Junior event while Keith Conlon defeated Kevin McWeeney in the semi-final of Under-21.

Despite being 5-2 up, Kevin lost 6-5 to Wexford’s Jordan Sinnott in the final. In the Seniors, the only player to represent Leitrim Niall Sweeney lost to Ken Martin in the last 16. As proven, the Leitrim lads have proven a force to be well capable of great achievements and the Leitrim Pool Association wish them well in all forthcoming events with a special good luck to Kevin McWeeney, Captain Keith Conlon, Jamie Gaffney and Daragh O’Shea who play on the Irish Junior team in the European Championships in Blackpool next month and Niall Sweeney who plays on the Men’s Team in the same Championships.

Pool Hall Membership 2013: Annual membership for hall is now due. Seniors and over 18 €50, Junior €30. After membership is paid, each visit is only €2. Membership can be paid to any of the executive members. L.P.A website www.leitrimpool.com for further info.

This week’s league fixtures January 17 and 18: Group A: Cardiff’s B v Taylor’s, Friday; Club F v Blue Devon Friday; Duignan’s v Mulvey’s Friday; Group B Central v Cardiff’s A, Friday; Venue v Monica’s, Thursday; Carthy’s v Shivnan’s Thursday; Leitrim Inn Bye.

Open Day: The L.P.A will be holding an Open Day in the Pool Hall, Drumshanbo in the near future. All students interested in the game will be most welcome. Watch this column for further details.
