Ballinamore gears up for Festival Road Races next Wednesday

The start of last year's Ballinamore Festival Road Races.

Thereafter entries can be made at registration on the evening of the races, Wednesday August 14th, at Ballinamore Sports Hall from 6.00. All entries and registrations must be completed by 7.10 so as to facilitate the commencement and proper timing of the races. These will start at 7.30 p.m. beside the bottlebank at the lower side of Sean O Heslin GAA Park.

Underage races will be held in St Felim’s playing field at 6.15 p.m. with entries taken from 5.45 at the dressing rooms in the field. The events are- Under 9 300m, Under 11 500m and Under 13 600m. All are welcome and a number of medals will be awarded in each event.

The main races follow the usual route with the 10K turning to go along the canal at bottom of Main St and the 5K continuing out the Mohill road to the turning point and then back to the usual finish at Mean Scoil Fatima. Runners will then return to the Sports Hall for refreshments, results and prize-giving.

The 10K incorporates a new 10K AAI Championship of Leitrim at senior and masters level. There is also a team competition in both mens and womens with four to count.The event is open to all teams but participants must be genuine members of the particular team and declare it at registration. Prizes in the 10K will be for at least the first six in open mens and womens, juniors and the various Masters categories as well as for breaking the Course Record . Prizes in the 5K will go to overall top three men and women with three prizes for Under 18 and Under 16 categories. A number of spot prizes will be awarded to finishers regardless of finishing position.

It is hoped that this year the event will be blessed with good weather and that a record number of runners, joggers and walkers will have an enjoyable evening complemented by the nightly Festival on street entertainment.
