The first meeting of the year at the Lenabane track takes place on Monday, May 19. First race 5.55 but in the event of a high number of entries and an eight race card being required, it may change to 5.25. A decision will be made on Sunday.

“There’s always that buzz of anticipation at this time of year,” said racecourse manager, Michael Finneran, “We’ve been counting down the days to our first meeting and have been kept busy getting everything in place for what we hope will be a successful year that everyone will enjoy.”

New upgrades at the venue include a parking area for horse boxes only at the bottom of the stable yard. The committee have carried out a lot of work behind the scenes over the winter months so as to ensure as enjoyable a season as possible for all punters.

This meeting is traditionally associated with attracting a large number of Kepak customers with the local factory one the meeting’s sponsors along with Connolly Red Mills and EBF. The Best Turned Out Horse prize will be sponsored by Hamrock’s Bar and Lounge, Athleague. The card is made up of four flat, two chases and a bumper.

For the first time Roscommon are having a kids club which includes a family evening made up of fantastic free entertainment. It includes: Pirate Boat Train, Disco Dome, Face Painting and Front Runner Racing Club for Kids.

Also, there are bargain admission prices to be availed of. One parent and three children (U-16) can gain entry for €10 while two parents and up to six children U-16 costs just €20. The standard admission costs for adults is €13 with OAPs and students €8. A special voucher for €30 includes admission, race card, two-course meal and €10 bet.

Catering will be provided by Lydon House Catering, Galway with music in the main bar after the second last race by Ciaran Rosney.
