Preparations are well in hand for the third Ballinamore 10K and 5K Road Races which will take place under AAI Rules on Wednesday August 15, at 7 30 pm.
The events are held in conjunction with Ballinamore Festival and are supported by Waterways Ireland.
Entries can be made on line at www.runireland.com or they can be made by post up to Friday next. They can also be made at Ballinamore Sports Hall up to 7.10 pm on the night of the race as all competitors are required to register there where they will receive their tee shirt, race number and timing chip.
The start is quite close to the Sports Hall and the finish is at Mean Scoil Fatima. The arrangements are identical to last year.
Both races commence at the same time at same place. Both go through the town and divide at the bottom of Main St where the 10K takes the Golf Links Road and the 5K runners go straight ahead. Both finish at the same place.
There will be prizes for the first six individuals in both mens’ and womens’ 10K. There will also be three team prizes for both men and women with teams of four in the mens’ event and three in the womens’ event.
There are also three prizes for Juniors (Under 20) in the 10K as well as for V1, V2 and V3 categories in respect of both men and women.
An athlete, male or female, who sets a new 10K course record will receive a special prize.
There are prizes also in the 5K event for first three men and women as well as first three boys and girls Under 18 and Under 16.
To cater for the younger ages who in years gone by had Festival Road Races along the canal there will be races in St Felim’s (beside the Sports Hall) if weather permits. These will commence at 6.15 sharp and will be as follows: Under 8 300m, Under 10 600m, Under 12 900m and Under 14 1200m. These will be held on grass and prizes will be awarded.
The Road Races will be followed by refreshments in the Sports Hall and prizes will be presented at 9 pm. Every athlete will receive an accurate chip time. There will be a large number of spot prizes with joggers and walkers also benefiting from these.
