The wait is over for the raising of the first white flag at Lenabane in 2012. Next Monday, May 21, sees the first action of the year at Roscommon Racecourse.
Although the first race is set for 6 pm, patrons are reminded to keep a close watch on the starting time as there is a possibility of an eight-race card, which would result in the first race getting underway at 5.30 pm. A decision on this will not be taken until Sunday morning (May 20).
“It’s great to be counting down the days to the first meeting of the year,” said racecourse manager Michael Finneran. “There’s plenty of interesting cards in our opening fixture and once again we hope that a couple of stars of the future will grace our track this year.”
Roscommon traditionally attracts leading horses, trainers and owners with 2011 proving to be a particularly successful year in this regard. Indeed, it’s no doubt a factor in the racecourse’s ability to continually attract sponsors, many of whom have a strong association with Roscommon Races for many years.
“Thankfully our loyal sponsors continue to support us, something that we’re very appreciative of. Without them and our strong customer base, we wouldn’t be where we are today,” noted the racecourse manager.
The loyal sponsors have once again come up trumps for Roscommon with The Irish Stallion Farms sponsoring two races along with Oliver Hannon, Connolly’s Red Mills and Kapok. This particular meeting brings together a large number of Kepak customers who really add to the buzz at the races.
The general admission is adults €13 and students/OAP €8. Roscommon Race Committee have left in place its Special Deal from last year where for €30 people can purchase admission, race card, two-course meal and a €10 betting voucher.
Lydon House, Galway is the caterers at the course. For patrons who wish to remain at the racecourse for a short time after racing, music will be available in the main bar.

Michael Finneran wishes to point out that deals are available on group bookings. Any groups interested may phone Michael on 087 2203288.
