On the 10th of January 2013, former Leitrim county footballer Philip Howard will begin a four month challenge of a lifetime.

The Bornacoola man will set off on a 12,000 km cycle from Cairo, Egypt to Cape Town in South Africa, travelling through 10 different countries facing extreme climatic conditions, hostile environment and uncompromising terrain.

Philip hopes to raise much needed funds and publicity for Pieta House, the Centre for the Prevention of Suicide and Self Harm.

Earlier this month, the Bornacoola and former Leitrim footballer received some advice and encouragement from Irish cycling star Nicholas Roche at a cycling event in Meath.
