Laura Reynolds put up a creditable performance in difficult conditions to finish 12th in the 20K Walk at the World Student Games in Shenzhen, China last Friday.

Laura had missed quite an amount of training over the summer due to a shin injury and had to pass up her chance of competing in the European Under 23 Championship.

There were 13 in the race who had previously recorded faster times so 12th position was good. However, had not the injury caused so much loss of training time it might even have been possible to get into the top eight in the event.

The race was won by Julia Nyerces Takacs of Spain in 1:33.51 from the two Russians Tatiana Shemyakina and Nina Okhotnikova who recorded 1:34.23 and 1:35.10 respectively. Laura’s time was 1:43.27 when all times were well back due to heat and humidity. Four competitors failed to complete the course.
