Tribute to the late Jim O'Brien

Tribute to the late Jim O'Brien

Arlesey Town Darts team led by Mohill native John Boyle have been travelling over to Mohill Town annually since the year 2000.

Over the years a great bond has formed and lifelong friendships have been made between the two groups. The fun, laughter and sportsmanship experienced make it one of the big events of the year for our local darts players.

This year was no different all be it, it was the first year without Jim O’Brien R.I.P who was dearly missed.

Upon arrival the Arlesey Town team joined by Phil O’Brien visited Jim’s resting place where Phil was presented with a beautiful stone wreath of flowers and John Boyle made a touching heartfelt speech dedicated to Jim and his contribution to their annual visit. It was something Phil and family in particular wish to sincerely thank the group for, the beautiful words full of sincerity will stay with them forever.

The weekend continued with both teams meeting and enjoying friendly sport and some great darts were thrown. Music, good food and spot prizes continued throughout the weekend.

Paul Beck and Jim Boyle in their usual unassuming way together with John Boyle organised a fine array of trophies, medals and a fantastic cup, and a special mention for the Jersey’s from the Mohill team which looked fantastic.

The presentation of the medals wrapped up the weekend and a fitting draw was the final result which everyone was pleased about. A special mention also for the beautiful crystal presented to Phil, the kindness overwhelmed us. A huge ‘Thank You”.

Over the years the Arlesey Darts team and the Mohill Darts team have had many happy times combining fancy dress, singing, dancing, celebrating birthdays along side the very serious darts games!

There was even a mock wedding on one occasion with the groom looking particularly stunning in his vail!

John, Hazel, Aidie, June, Chris, Julie, Tony, Karen, Liz, Bob, Nigel, Jo, Lisa, Steve, Anne and James ... from all the O’Brien family, staff and customers and the Mohill Town darts team, we wish to extend our sincere gratitude for the effort, genuine thought and sensitivity which was displayed by each and everyone of you, also for the laughs, good spirited banter and sportsmanship which are a constant with you all.

We hope this friendship between our two teams continues and we look forward to seeing you all in 2017. We hope you enjoy coming here as much as we enjoy having you.

Best wishes and kind regards, Mohill Darts team, O’Brien’s Tavern and The Travellers Rest Guest House.
