Next Sunday is Ladies Day for sport in Leitrim with Breege Connolly running the Olympic Marathon while the County ladies are in All-Ireland Quarter-Final action.
Both Breege and the Ladies footballers will start their respective sporting endeavours at 1.30 Irish time next Sunday, Breege in the oppressive heat of Rio de Janeiro at the 2016 Olympics while the Green & Gold ladies will be in action in the slightly less glamorous surroundings of Kinnegad.
As Breege pounds the streets of Rio over 26.2 miles, captain Aine Tighe and her team-mates take on Leinster champions Kildare in a huge quarter-final encounter with the winners taking on either Sligo or Wexford in the All-Ireland Intermediate Semi-Final.
The men of the county haven't been forgotten as the second round of the Connacht Gold Senior and Fox's Monumentals Intermediate Championships gets underway with another derby clash on Friday night when champions Mohill face a Gortletteragh team they beat in last year's semi-finals.
l See pages 78-79 for an in-depth interview with Breege Connolly. Everyone in the Leitrim Observer would like to wish Breege the very best of luck next Sunday in Rio.
