Third Annual Glencar Lough Swim takes place this weekend

The third annual Glencar Lough Swim takes place at one of Leitrim’s most scenic location – the Glacial Glencar Lake – on this Saturday, September 15.

For all who wish to participate in the Glencar Lough Swim the events distances are one kilometre; two kilometres and five kilometres. The Lough Swim is being organised in aid of the MS North West Therapy Centre in Sligo and it is hoped that substantial funds will be raised from it for this most worthy cause.

Speaking about the event Shane Sweeney, MS North West Therapy Centre Physiotherapist and organiser of the event highlighted the importance of fundraising events like this.

"The North West MS Therapy Centre depends on donations and fundraising annually to run this essential service for so many people with neurological conditions and their families around the North West of Ireland.

It has always been my wish to have an event like this at Glencar having grown up in the area, so the Glencar Lough Swim, now in its third year not only raises vital funds for the centre but also promotes Leitrim and especially Glencar. I wish to thank all who take part, sponsor, volunteer and show up to support this event every year.”

Registration for Saturday’s Glencar Lough Swim can be done on the website – – or check the Glencar Lough Swim Facebook page. It is expected up to 150 swimmers will participate in Saturday’s Swim.
