With the Dublin Women’s Mini-Marathon just around the corner, the prospect of a good competition properly run on an AAI certified Course should attract a large number of female athletes of all ages to Ballinamore on Sunday next for the first ever Leitrim Women’s Open 5Km road race.
Run by Ballinamore AC in conjunction with Leitrim Sports Partnership and Leitrim County Board AAI, Sunday’s event is for runners, joggers and fitness walkers with numerous categories from Under 18 upwards and a wide variety of prizes, including many spot prizes.
The event is supported by the Irish Sports Council under their Programme for Women in Sport and will also feature accurate chip timing. Entries can be made in advance on line to email@example.com but may also be made on the day where Ballinamore Sports Hall on the Enniskillen Road will be open for entries from 12.30.
The race begins at the Sean O’Heslin GAA Park beside the Sports Hall, proceeds through the town out the Carrick on Shannon road to the turning point and finishes at Mean Scoil Fatima.
Refreshments will be provided for all in Ballinamore Sports Hall after the race which begins at 2.00. Enquiries to Leitrim Sports Partnership 071 9650498 or Ballinamore AC 071-9644207.
This is identical to the 5K at the Festival where a 5K and a 10K for both men and women will again be run under AAI Rules on Wednesday August 15.
