Lough Key Triathlon Club held its second annual Try a Tri for beginners last Sunday at Aura Leisure Centre in Carrick-on-Shannon.
The event, which was jointly supported by Aura and the Leitrim Sports Partnership, drew an entry of 70 beginners from the local area as well as competitors from counties Longford, Sligo and Roscommon and further afield.
The fastest competitor on the day was local man Paul Little in a new course record of 47mins and 2 seconds over the 250m swim, 13k cycle and 4k run course. He was followed home by another local Graham Allen while Barry Greaney was third.
The women’s race was a very tight affair with Olivia Ni Shuilleabhain taking the win in a time of 52mins and 58seconds with Michelle Lannon a mere 3 seconds behind her in second. Third home was Dearbhaile Heffron.
