The Leitrim AAI Primary Schools Cross Country Championships and Walks will be held in the Leitrim Gaels Community field on Friday next, September 27, at 10.45 am.
The events which are decided at Connacht level are as follows: 3/4th Class Girls & Boys: 800m; 5/6th Class Girls & Boys: 1000m; Racewalk Girls & Boys: 1000m.
Teams are a maximum of six runners in each event with the best four to count but individuals can also compete.
Winning teams and individuals represent Leitrim in Connacht Championships in Moyne, Co Longford, on Saturday October 12.
Entries at the venue from 10.45 am on Friday. Entry fee €4 per athlete. To facilitate a speedy running of the events teachers in charge are asked to have a list of their competitors to hand in when making the entry.
In order to get the programme over much faster than the past few years a “disc” system of making up team results will be used. When entry is made the teacher in charge will be given an envelope for each team entered. The teacher will put the name of the school and the event on each envelope.
Each child when finishing will be given a cloakroom ticket with number corresponding to finishing position. The teacher will immediately collect all the school’s tickets, add up the aggregate of the lowest four numbers and write this on the envelope. All numbers are put into the envelope which is then handed up. This will give an immediate team result for each race and ensure that presentations can take place immediately after the last of the races, ensuring schools can return home immediately. The full results will be displayed on the Leitrim Community website www.leitrimcommunity.com later that evening.
Fixtures: Saturday October 19: Leitrim Cross Country U-11, 13, 15, 17 and Senior Ballinamore 2.00; Sunday October 27: Connacht U-12, 14, 16, 18 and Combined Senior/Intermediate/Vets at Hazelwood, Sligo 1.00.
