Outing: Despite the best efforts of the weather, our first outing of the year went ahead in Bundoran. The wet and windy conditions resulted in a smaller than normal turnout but we still had 19 hardy golfers on the day. Our new captain Jimmy Egan drove off in fine style to begin what should be an enjoyable year’s golf. As the scores were added up at the end of the round, Jimmy was leading with just the last group to come in, but Declan Loftus emerged with a huge score of 44 points. The margin of victory of 9 points is one of the highest ever in the Society.

Winners are as follows: Overall Winner, Declan Loftus, Low Handicap Section, 1st Jimmy Egan, 2nd Vincent McMorrow. Ladies Section 1st Breda Travers, 2nd Kathleen Loftus. High Handicap Section, 1st Declan Loftus (overall winner), 2nd Aidan McKeon. Front Nine, Steve Stead. Back Nine, John Morgan. There is quite a gap until the next outing, it takes place in Lough Erne on March 22. The draw for the Matchplay will take place at the presentation for Lough Erne.

Men’s section: Round 1 of the Anchorage spring league is now complete - the leaders are as follows: Team Pat King 49, team Leo Mulvey 48, team Michael Duignan 48, team Niall McGreevy 48, team Michael Masterson 48. Round 2 is in progress until this Friday, make sure your team has a score in to keep you in contention. Round 3 gets underway this Saturday, the format is 2 man Shambles better ball. Details available on the website and the notice board. Great turnout and even better scoring so far, once again thanks to Kevin and Eileen in the Anchorage Bar for their very generous support.

Men’s Senior Notes: Our AGM will take place on Thursday February 20, at 11am. All members are requested to attend as there are very important matters that are on the agenda and that need to be discussed. Finally, sadly, sincere sympathy to the Canning family on their recent sad loss. Pauric was one of the great characters of our society and a thorough gentleman. May he Rest in Peace.
