There will be a small number of Leitrim athletes taking part in the Juvenile events when the Glo Health AAI All Ireland Inter Counties and Even Age National Championships take place on Sunday next.

The activities commence at 11 am in the grounds of Dundalk Institute of Technology with the Under 12 Girls race.

This is the event with the greatest Leitrim interest as three Leitrim runners qualified for membership of the 12 strong Connacht Team at the Connacht Championships in Loughrea a few weeks ago.

Ella McDaid and Erin Somers of North Leitrim AC took second and sixth respectively while Ellie O’Rourke of Ballinamore AC was fourth. In addition, the North Leitrim Club team will be one of the fifteen club teams taking part.

Patrick Montgomery of North Leitrim AC, who subsequently won the Connacht U11 title in Westport, was runner up in the U12 Boys event and will be competing in that race.

There is no Leitrim involvement in the U14, 16 and 18 Championships which follow nor in the Senior and Junior Inter Counties Championships. The Inter Counties events will be used as the basis for the selection of Irish teams for the European Cross in Samokov, Bulgaria, on Sunday December 14.
