We had a busy day last Saturday with members in action at the All-Ireland Schools Track & Field in Tullamore and the Roscommon Community Games Finals.
Eanna Madden was our top performer in Tullamore, finishing 5th in the Senior 200m in a lightning fast 22.84 and then sixth in the 500m in a new pb of 50.91 after being in contention for a medal entering the final straight. This was a set of top performances for Eanna that bode well for the future.
Cathal McElgunn was 6th in the Inter 400m in a time of 54.18, just outside his pb from the very difficult lane 8. David Bruen found the going tough in the Inter Steeplechase, finishing 11th in a time of 5.22. Our thanks to Margaret, Elise & Kasey Bruen, Siobhan & Callum Whelan and Siobhan McElgunn for travelling to Tullamore to cheer on the lads while Mary O’Donnell officiated at the starts on the day.
In Roscommon, also on Saturday, Ellis Conway, Brian Finn and Colin McDonnell were all members of the Croghan Area team who won the U-13 Mixed Relay to book thier place in the National Finals in Athlone. Ellis also finished second in the U-12 100m but we don’t have any other results to hand. The field events will be held later in the week.
Next Saturday, our youngest members are in action in the Western Region U-9, 10 & 11 team competition and U-12 championships. We wish everyone the best of luck. A bus will leave from the Sports Complex on Saturday at 8 am with a fare of €10 which also includes entry fees. All parents are asked to contact Mary O’Donnell as soon as possible to tell her if their children are travelling on the bus.
